Take Action: Wisconsin

red and blue graphic with a picture of a white man and text next to it

We are once again eyeing the finish line in Wisconsin. To re-cap, our $5M SCI Research bill (SB99/AB92) has received unanimous approval out of both its committee hearings earlier this year. We also picked up support from a lawmaker who previously opposed our bill, along with several of his holdout colleagues, thanks to our willingness to engage in the lost art of compromise.

Our final hurdle is simply getting our bill to the Senate and Assembly floor for a vote. But unfortunately, we are being denied a full vote on our bill by the Senate Majority leader Devin LeMahieu.

But we are not giving up. Right now, I am driving to Madison to join our Wisconsin CAN advocates at the Capitol. We plan to go to LeMahieu’s office and convince him to change his mind.

We will need your phone calls and emails to bolster our cause. Please take 5 minutes right now to call and email his office. Be respectful. Simply tell Senator LeMahieu why SCI research is important to you and to bring our bill to the Senate floor for a vote:

Senator Devin LeMahieu: (608) 266-2056 | Sen.LeMahieu@legis.wisconsin.gov

Once you have contacted Senator LeMahieu, make another call to Representative Robin Vos, who is the Assembly Speaker (608-237-9133 | Rep.Vos@legis.wisconsin.gov)

Rep. Vos brought our bill to the Assembly floor last year. Thank him for that and then urge him to do it again.

Jason Stoffer, U2FP's CAN Manager, has sent a letter to Senator LeMahieu, which we’ll be delivering in person to ensure our voice is heard. You can read his letter here.

All we want is for our bill to be given a full vote in both chambers. When we got a full vote in the Assembly last year, our bill passed with flying colors, 93-3. We are confident we have enough votes in the Senate to pass there as well. Withholding our bill from a vote, based on an unspoken “rule” (the Rule of 17) is anti-democratic and we have worked too hard and waited too long to be denied.

Please call Senator LeMahieu and Representative Robin Vos today!

- Senator Devin LeMahieu: (608) 266-2056 | Sen.LeMahieu@legis.wisconsin.gov
- Representative Robin Vos: (608) 237-9133 | Rep.Vos@legis.wisconsin.gov

You can say the following:
“Please give our SCI Research bill (SB99/AB92) a vote on the Senate and Assembly floors, in a forum which can be witnessed by the citizens of Wisconsin.”

Please call and email now, no matter what state or country you live in. The more individuals who call and write, the more these lawmakers will understand the urgency of this bill.

Thanks in advance for contacting Senator LeMahieu and Representative Vos - your voice matters!
